Apply Radio/Podcast Template
This will affect the entire document and adjust all formatting.
- Select Format > Document Template > Default Templates
- Select Radio/Podcast Template
- If there is content in the document, it will ask if you want to confirm the template change.
- Select Apply Template
Core Line Types
These six line types form the foundation of the radio/podcast format and are the most commonly used.
- Scene – Used to indicate location and setup for audio production
- Bold and in all caps by default
- Action – Describes the environment, physical actions, or background activity that helps create the soundscape
- Indented and styled similarly to stageplay action
- Character – The name of the speaker
- Positioned to the left
- Dialogue – The spoken line, placed side-by-side with the character name
- Formatted to the right
- Sound Effect – Indicates a specific sound that should be heard (e.g.,
SFX: CAR HORN BLARES
)- Underlined by default
- Music – Used for specific music cues (e.g.,
MUSIC: STUCK IN THE MIDDLE WITH YOU
)- Underlined by default
Line Type Behavior
- Pressing Enter from Scene → Action line
- Pressing Tab from Action → Character line
- Pressing Enter from Character → Dialogue line
- Pressing Enter from Sound Effect or Music → Action line
Additional Line Types
- Parenthetical (Parens) – Used sparingly between Character and Dialogue to indicate tone or delivery (e.g., whispering)
- Transition – Optional line type to mark transitions such as
FADE OUT
orEND SCENE
- Text – General-purpose writing space with no special formatting
- Lyrics – Dialogue that is sung or recited appearing in all caps, typically for songs in musicals
- Image – Insert multimedia such as reference images or visual notes
Outlining Line Types
- Notes – Indented comments for reference, not counted in the page count
- Outline – Provides structural guidance, hidden unless Show Outline is enabled
- Sequence – Groups scenes into story beats, with similar functionality across templates
