Audio/Visual & Audio/Visual (Flipped) Template

Our Audio/Visual Templates are designed for scripts that require precise synchronization between visuals and audio, such as commercials, promotional videos, documentaries, training videos, and video production scripts. Both templates function identically, with the Audio/Visual (Flipped) Template simply reversing the placement of the Visual and Audio columns.

All of our document template's line types have been formatted to follow a traditional pattern of progression based on industry standards.

Key Differences from Other Screenplay Templates

Unlike standard screenplay templates, the Audio/Visual Templates split the page into two columns:

  • Audio - Describes what the audience hears (Dialogue, Sound Effects, Music, etc.)
  • Visual - Describes what the audience sees (Action, Shots, etc.)

Core Line Types

These seven line types form the foundation of the audio/visual format and are the most commonly used.

  • Scene – Marks a new scene and automatically generates the two-column structure when pressing Enter
  • Action – Describes the visual elements (e.g. setting, movement) in the left column
  • Character – The name of a speaking character, placed in the right column for audio
  • Dialogue – Character speech, voiceovers, or narration, formatted in the right column
  • Parenthetical (Parens) – Provides direction for how a line is spoken (e.g. whispering, excited)
  • Shot – Describes camera angle directions (e.g. CLOSE-UP , WIDE SHOT ), placed in the left column with Action
  • Audio – Used for sound cues, music, and SFX (e.g. MUSIC CUE: Upbeat pop track begins )

Additional Line Types

  • Act Breaks – New Act and End Act are used to structure your script into Acts
  • Transition – Specifies scene transitions (e.g. CUT TO: , FADE IN: )
  • Text – Unformatted lines for miscellaneous content or production notes
  • Image – Allows inserting multimedia such as images, videos, or reference sketches

Outlining Line Types

  • Notes – Indented comments for reference, not counted in the page count
  • Outline – Provides structural guidance, hidden unless Show Outline is enabled
  • Sequence – Groups scenes into story beats, with similar functionality across templates
