Writing an Episodic Project in WriterDuet

Creating episodic projects for TV dramas, single/multi-cam sitcoms, and beyond is seamless in WriterDuet when you centralize your work into one master project.

This article will walk you through a clear workflow for building, organizing, and exporting an episodic series within a single WriterDuet project.

Step 1: Create a New Project

Start by creating a centralized project for your series.

  1. Navigate to File > New Project
  2. Choose your initial template:
  3. Name your first document something meaningful (e.g., “Pilot” or "Ep 1")

💡 You can always change templates and rename documents later.

Step 2: Add Documents for Each Episode

Ensure each episode has its own script document and title page for ease of exporting/printing.

  1. Open the Project widget
    • Depending on your layout, select the Project icon in the left sidebar or the Project Documents tab in the right widget panel.
  2. Select Add Document
    • Add a script document for each episode (e.g., “Ep 2,” “Ep 3”)
    • Add a title page document for each episode as needed (e.g., “Title Page - Ep 2," "TP Ep 3")

Note: Adding multiple documents to a project requires a paid subscription.

Step 3: Organize Documents with Folders

For clean project structure and easier navigation, group episode-specific documents into folders.

  1. Right-click the desired episode document (e.g., “Pilot”) and select Move to Folder
  2. Type to create a new folder or select an existing one
  3. Select Move to Folder
    • Move all other related documents (e.g., title pages, outlines) into the appropriate folder
    • Repeat for all episodes

🗂️ You can move documents out of folders and into other folders, as desired.

Step 4: Create and Organize Resources

Consider adding the following supplementary documents to compartmentalize your thoughts and aid your creative process:

  • Episode Outline
  • Character Breakdowns
  • Series Bible
  • Research or Notes

✍️ Use the Notes template for non-script documents, and move these files into a folder named "Resources" or something similar for quick access.

Step 5: Export Multiple Episodes

Once your episodes and materials are organized, you can export one episode or all episodes into a single PDF.

  1. Select File > Export
  2. Double-click or drag documents to Include or Do Not Include in the export and drag documents to rearrange the order
    • For instance, if you're needing to export/print Episode 2, drag "Title Page - Ep 2" and "Ep 2" to the Include section.
  3. Select Export to generate a PDF and print from your device, as needed

🖨️ This feature is especially useful for sharing pitch packets, submissions, or production drafts.
