Open a Document

A document is the content you are crafting. Need to have two versions of the same script in the same project? Need to create a document for character descriptions? Easily done! Every project can have as many documents as you would like!


Open a Document

From the Project Widget

Newly opened documents will appear in tab the right of the tab that is being viewed.

  1. With the desired project open, go to the Project widget
  2. Select the document you would like to open

*Use Cmd/Ctrl when clicking to open documents in tabs quickly. This will load the document in a tab without automatically navigating to it. 

OR

  1. With the desired project open, go to the Project widget
  2. Right-click or select the three-dot icon on the desired document
  3. Select Open
    1. To open the document in Split Pane, select Open in Split Pane. See Use Split Pane for more.


From the Portfolio

  1. Open the portfolio
  2. Select the desired Project
    1. The Project Documents are displayed to the right
  3. Double-click the desired document OR select the document and then select Open


From Recently Opened

  1. Select File > Open Recent
  2. Click to open the desired document

Add a New Document

  1. Open the Project widget
  2. Select Add Document
  3. Name the document
  4. Select the desired template
    1. As needed, you can make this document private. Collaborators will not see this document in the list or be able to access it. See Make Document Private or Public for details.
  5. Select the desired View for this document (This is simply the default opening view. It can still be viewed in any of the other views at any time.) 
    1. Page View
    2. Cards View
    3. Mind Map View
  6. Select Create

Change an Active Document's View

  1. Select View from the main menu
  2. Select the desired view
    1. Page View
    2. Cards View
    3. Mind Map View


Change Document's Default View

If you change your mind about the view you would like a document to open in, you can change it through the document's options in the Project widget. 

  1. Open the Project widget
  2. Select the three dots to the right of the document
  3. Select Default view
  4. Select the desired view
    1. Page View
    2. Cards View
    3. Mind Map View
  5. A new tab will open with the document in the desired view

Close a Document

Each open document is under a tab in the editing area. 

  1. Select the X on the right edge of the tab for the document you would like to close

OR

  1. While viewing the document you would like to close, select File > Close Tab


Close All Other Documents

This will close all of the documents that are open except the one you want to keep open.

  1. Click on the tab for the document you would like to keep open
  2. Select File > Close All Tabs Except Current
