Single-Cam Sitcom Template

Our Single-Cam Sitcom Template is designed for television scripts that follow a single-camera format, like Modern Family or The Office. Unlike multi-cam sitcoms, single-cam sitcoms are filmed more like traditional films or TV dramas, using a single camera setup and multiple edits rather than shooting with multiple cameras simultaneously in one location.

All of our document template's line types have been formatted to follow a traditional pattern of progression based on industry standards.

Core Line Types

These five line types form the foundation of the single-cam sitcom format and are the most commonly used.

  • Act Breaks – Indicates the start and end of Acts, typically for TV scripts and stageplays
    • Act lines in this template are bold and underlined.
  • Scene – Scene headings are underlined by default, distinguishing them from screenplay scene headings
  • Action – Formatted similarly to feature film scripts, describing the setting, character actions, and visuals
  • Character – The name of a speaking character, centered on the page
  • Dialogue – Character speech, formatted as single-spaced (unlike multi-cam sitcoms, which are double-spaced)
  • Parenthetical (Parens) – Provides direction for how a line is delivered or mid-dialogue actions

Additional Line Types

  • Dual Dialogue – Works the same as in the Screenplay Template, allowing two characters to speak simultaneously
  • Transition – Right-aligned instructions that indicate scene changes, such as CUT TO: or FADE IN:
  • Shot – Camera angle directions, typically used in shooting scripts rather than spec scripts
    • Example: CLOSE ON [CHARACTER]
  • Text – Unformatted lines for miscellaneous content or production notes
  • Image – Allows inserting multimedia such as images, videos, or reference sketches

Outlining Line Types

  • Notes – Indented comments for reference, not counted in the page count
  • Outline – Provides structural guidance, hidden unless Show Outline is enabled
  • Sequence – Groups scenes into story beats, with similar functionality across templates

📝 WriterDuet Tip: Writing an episodic series? We recommend creating a separate document for each episode within the same project. This keeps your episodes organized all in one place and gives you the flexibility to easily export a single episode or the entire series, as needed.
