Core Line Types
These six line types form the foundation of the multi-cam sitcom format and are the most commonly used.
- Act – The first line of any multi-cam sitcom script begins with an Act line
- Scene – Scene headings are underlined by default, distinguishing them from screenplay scene headings
- Action – Action lines are formatted in all caps
- Character – The name of a speaking character, centered and formatted in uppercase
- Dialogue – Dialogue lines are double-spaced, a unique feature of multi-cam sitcom scripts
- Parenthetical (Parens) – Positioned above the dialogue, also double-spaced by default
Additional Line Types
- Transition - Right-aligned instructions that indicate scene changes, though rarely used in multi-cam sitcoms
- Shot – Always in all caps, even though multi-cam sitcoms do not rely on frequent camera direction
- Text – Unformatted lines for miscellaneous content, often used for production notes
- Lyrics – Formatted in all caps and double-spaced
- Dual Dialogue – Maintains the standard side-by-side format, while preserving double-spacing for readability
- Image – Insert multimedia, such as images, videos, or audio to provide additional context for your readers
Outlining Line Types
- Notes – Indented comments for reference, not counted in the page count
- Outline – Provides structural guidance, hidden unless Show Outline is enabled
- Sequence – Groups scenes into story beats, with similar functionality across templates
📝 WriterDuet Tip: Writing an episodic series? We recommend creating a separate document for each episode within the same project. This keeps your episodes organized all in one place and gives you the flexibility to easily export a single episode or the entire series, as needed.
