Display Layouts

There are eight fully customizable layouts. Each layout is loaded with a specific set of menus and widgets to help create a foundation for your customizable workspace. Explore these templates for yourself to find the one that best suits your workflow. To learn more about creating a custom workspace, see Customize Your Workspace.



Layout Default Elements

Most layouts have these elements by default. These elements are not customizable and will be present at all times. 

  • Main Editing Area - Where you will view and edit your Page (script, book, novel, etc.), Cards, and Mind Map. 
  • Document Tabs - When you have multiple documents and projects open, you can toggle between them using these tabs. The project name will only appear in the tab name if more than one project is open. (Not available in Default Layout.)
  • Editing Area Menu - View options and shortcuts to tools and features such as Dark Mode, Ruler, Filter, History, Share, and more. (Not available in Default or Mobile Layouts.)
  • Expand/Collapse Side Panel - The right widget panel can be collapsed and expanded when needed. 
  • Menu Toggle - This icon appears in multiple locations. It will show or hide a menu. In this instance, it will show or hide the Editing Area Menu.



Default Layout

The diagram below shows the default for the layout. The layout is fully customizable.
  • Main Menu - Access all of the tools and features you will need.
    • Available at the top center of the page in the Default layout.
    • Contains File, Edit, Format, Share, View, Tools, Reports, Revisions, Production, Customize, and Help
  • Sidebar - Visible in multiple layouts on the lefthand side. Here you will find quick access to frequently used features. This element is fully customizable.
  • Left Widget Panel - When you select an icon tab in the Sidebar, the widget(s) will appear here. Most widget panels contain more than one widget. Select the icon for the widget that is open to collapse the widget panel. This panel is fully customizable.
  • Line Types Widget - Quick access to all of the line types available for your document.



Flow Layout

The diagram below shows the default for the layout. The layout is fully customizable.

  • Sidebar - Visible in multiple layouts on the lefthand side. Here you will find quick access to frequently used features. This element is fully customizable.
    • In the Flow layout, the Main Menu (File, Edit, Format, etc.) is available within the Sidebar by selecting the three horizontal lines (hamburger icon) in the top left corner.
  • Left Widget Panel - When you select an icon tab in the Sidebar, the widget(s) will appear here. Most widget panels contain more than one widget. Select the icon for the widget that is open to collapse the widget panel. This panel is fully customizable.
  • Line Types Widget - Quick access to all of the line types available for your document.



Simplified Layout

The diagram below shows the default for the layout. The layout is fully customizable.

  • Sidebar - Visible in multiple layouts on the lefthand side. Here you will find quick access to frequently used features. This element is fully customizable.
    • In the Simplified layout, the Main Menu (File, Edit, Format, etc.) is available within the Sidebar by selecting the three horizontal lines (hamburger icon) in the top left corner.
  • Left Widget Panel - When you select an icon tab in the Sidebar, the widget(s) will appear here. Most widget panels contain more than one widget. Select the icon for the widget that is open to collapse the widget panel. This panel is fully customizable.
  • Line Types Widget - Quick access to all of the line types available for your document.



Classic Layout

The diagram below shows the default for the layout. The layout is fully customizable.

  • Main Menu - Access all of the tools and features you will need.
    • Available at the top left of the page in the Classic layout.
    • Contains File, Edit, Format, Share, View, Tools, Reports, Revisions, Production, Customize, and Help
  • Line Types Widget - Find all of the template line types in this handy widget.
  • Toolbar Widget - Fully customizable widget with over 30 toolbar icon options. To customize your Toolbar, see Customize Tools Widget.
  • Shortcuts - These icons/buttons will give you quick access to useful features (from left to right)
    • Title Page - Quick access to your Title Page for editing.
    • Save Icon - Hovering over the icon will show the last save online and offline. Selecting will generate a save based on your backup settings. 
    • Notifications Bell - A red dot will appear on the icon when you have a new notification. Selecting will open your notifications list.
    • Portfolio - A shortcut to your portfolio.
    • Account Icon - Selecting this icon will give you access to your user account, settings, logout, and more.
  • Widget Tabs - Widget Panels can contain multiple widgets. 
  • Right Widget Panel - When you select a tab at the top of the panel, it will open a collection of widgets here. Most widget panels contain more than one widget. This panel is fully customizable.



Expanded Layout

The diagram below shows the default for the layout. The layout is fully customizable.

  • Main Menu - Access all of the tools and features you will need.
    • Available at the top left of the page in the Expanded layout.
    • Contains File, Edit, Format, Share, View, Tools, Reports, Revisions, Production, Customize, and Help
  • Line Types Widget - Find all of the template line types in this handy widget.

Hybrid Layout

Hybrid is a good mix of the Simplified and Classic Layouts. The diagram below shows the default for the layout. The layout is fully customizable.

  • Main Menu - Access all of the tools and features you will need.
    • Available at the top left of the page in the Hybrid layout.
    • Contains File, Edit, Format, Share, View, Tools, Reports, Revisions, Production, Customize, and Help
  • Sidebar - Visible in multiple layouts on the lefthand side. Here you will find quick access to frequently used features. This element is fully customizable.
  • Left Widget Panel - When you select an icon tab from the Sidebar, the widget will appear here. Most widget panels contain more than one widget. This panel is fully customizable.

Custom Layout

Focus Layout

The diagram below shows the default for the layout. The layout is fully customizable.

The Focus layout minimizes Menu options for a distraction-free workspace. To access Menu options again while in the Focus layout:

  1. Select the Customize Layout window in the bottom righthand corner of your screen
  2. Select your desired layout, and Menu options will reappear



Mobile Layout

This layout is for mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. The layout cannot be altered. 

  • Open/Close Sidebar - The sidebar is collapsible.
  • Line Types/Tools Widget - For quick access, Line Types and Tools can be accessed at the top of the layout. They can still be found in the sidebar, as well. 
  • Switch Widget - Selecting this will switch between the Line Types and Tools widgets at the top.
  • Sidebar - Visible in multiple layouts on the lefthand side. Here you will find quick access to frequently used features.
    • In the Mobile layout, the Main Menu (File, Edit, Format, etc.) is available within the Sidebar by selecting the three horizontal lines (hamburger icon) in the top left corner.
  • Widget Panel - When you select an icon tab from the Sidebar, the widget will appear here. Most widget panels contain more than one widget.
