Enable/Disable Line Numbering

Add numbering to any line type in your document and customize their behavior to meet your formatting needs.

Enable Line Numbering

This will turn on numbering for the desired line type. Numbering can be enabled for multiple line types.

  1. Select Customize > Page
  2. Under Numbering, open the drop-down for Line Type
  3. Select the line type you wish to have numbering for
  4. Check the box for Number


Customize Line Numbering

  1. Enable Numbering for the desired line type
  2. Modify the desired numbering settings
    1. Show numbers on left: Enabled by default, this will display the number in the left margin on the page
    2. Show numbers on right: Enabled by default, this will display the number in the right margin on the page
    3. Update automatically: Enabled by default, this will automatically update the number of that line type as new lines of that line type are added or moved. When disabled, you will need to manually enter the line numbers in the margins where available.
    4. Start at number: will start the numbering with the desired number.
    5. Alternate between numbers and letters: Disabled by default, this will add a letter to line numbers when line numbers have been locked (Select Production > Lock Line Numbers)
    6. Letters go to the left of numbers: Disabled by default, this will place the letter to the left of numbers in line numbers that use letters and numbers.
    7. Split using the following line number: Disabled by default, this will generate a number/letter line number using the previous line number. For example: A scene added after scene 2 will be 2A.
    8. Restart numbers atNEVER by default, this will restart the numbers based on a specific line type. For example: If you would like scene numbers to start over at 1 with the beginning of a new Act.
    9. Include in same numberingNONE by default, this will include another desired line type in the same numbering pattern. This will require you to turn on numbering for that line type, as well. 
    10. Redo Numbers will reset all of the numbers based on the selected settings
    11. Clear Numbers will clear all numbers. You will then need to manually enter line numbers.



Change Line Number Margins

  1. Enable Numbering for the desired line type
  2. Under Number Margin, modify the left and right margins as desired
    1. To change the margins back to their defaults, select Reset



Disable Line Numbering

This will turn off numbering only for the desired line type.

  1. Select Customize > Page
  2. Under Numbering, open the drop-down menu for Line Type
  3. Select the line type you wish to affect
  4. Uncheck the box for Number



Lock Line Numbers - Pro Feature

This will lock the current numbers with their corresponding scenes. Any new scenes will include a letter with the number of the previous scene.

  1. Select Production > Lock Line Numbers
  2. Select Lock numbers
    1. To unlock, select Production > Lock Line Numbers > Unlock Numbers
